In today’s rapidly evolving world, global challenges require collaborative, ethical, and visionary leadership. Climate change, social inequality, geopolitical tensions, and economic disruptions are no longer isolated issues—they are deeply interconnected and impact lives both globally and locally. In this context, the Global Leadership Program by Aga Khan Foundation Canada (AKFC) stands out as a transformative initiative to equip Canadian professionals with the tools and mindset to lead effectively in a complex global landscape. What is the Global Leadership Program?
The Global Leadership Program (GLP) is a forward-thinking initiative aimed at empowering mid-career Canadian professionals from diverse sectors. It provides a unique opportunity for participants to explore pressing global and local challenges, gain deep insights from global experts, and foster meaningful connections with peers who share a commitment to creating a more peaceful, inclusive, and prosperous world.
Participants of the GLP engage in a rich blend of:
Virtual sessions that introduce global frameworks and critical concepts
In-person immersive seminars in Ottawa
Optional overseas learning experiences (to be confirmed)
Interactive workshops, simulations, and peer learning activities
These experiences are designed to help participants strengthen their leadership capabilities, deepen their understanding of global issues, and apply what they learn to their professional and community contexts. Key Themes Explored
Throughout the program, participants engage with a wide range of global challenges:
Climate Change and its political, economic, and social implications
The Fourth Industrial Revolution, exploring the future of work, populations, and the planet
Pluralism, diversity, social cohesion, and inclusive leadership
Sustainable Development from social, economic, political, and cultural perspectives
Gender Equality and Truth and Reconciliation with Indigenous communities in Canada
By addressing these themes, the GLP equips participants to become leaders who act with agency and hope in an increasingly interconnected and uncertain world.
Graduates of the GLP will:
Develop a global mindset and skillset to address multifaceted challenges
Build cross-sectoral networks and collaborate with peers from various professional backgrounds
Reflect deeply on their personal leadership practices
Engage with global experts and thought leaders
Receive group coaching and individual feedback
Participants emerge from the program with renewed clarity, purpose, and the ability to contribute meaningfully to their fields and communities.
